Then some of the scribes and Pharisees said to him, "Teacher, we wish to see a sign from you." But 

he answered them, "An evil and adulterous generation seeks for a sign; but no sign shall be given to it except the sign of the prophet Jonah. For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of the whale, so will the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth. The men

of Nin'eveh will arise at the judgment with this generation and condemn it; for they repented at the preaching of Jonah, and behold, something greater than Jonah is here. The queen of the South will

arise at the judgment with this generation and condemn it; for she came from the ends of the earth 

to hear the wisdom of Solomon, and behold, something greater than Solomon is here.

그 때에 율법학자들과 바리새파 사람들 가운데 몇 사람이 예수께 말하였다. "선생님, 우리는 선생님에게서 표징을 보았으면 합니다." 예수께서 그들에게 말씀하셨다. "악하고, 음란한 세대가 표징을 요구하지만, 예언자 요나의 표징 밖에는, 이 세대는 아무 표징도 받지 못할 것이다. 요나가 사흘 낮과 사흘 밤 동안을 큰 물고기 뱃속에 있었던 것 같이, 인자도 사흘 낮과 사흘 밤 동안을 땅 속에 있을 것이다. 심판 때에 니느웨 사람들이 이 세대와 함께 일어나서, 이 세대를 정죄할 것이다. 니느웨 사람들은 요나의 선포를 듣고 회개하였기 때문이다. 그러나 보아라, 요나보다 더 큰 이가 여기에 있다. 심판 때에 남방 여왕이 이 세대와 함께 일어나서, 이 세대를 정죄할 것이다. 그는 솔로몬의 지혜를 들으려고, 땅 끝에서부터 찾아왔기 때문이다. 그러나 보아라, 솔로몬보다 더 큰 이가 여기에 있다."
