Sphere of Ministry

2 Cor. 10:12-18

We do not dare to classify or compare ourselves with some of those who commend themselves. But when they measure themselves by one another, and compare themselves with one another, they do not show good sense. We, however, will not boast beyond limits, but will keep with in the field that God has assigned to us, to reach out even as far as you. For we were not overstepping our limits when we reached you; we were the first to come all the way to you with the good news of Christ. We do not boast beyond limits, that is, in the labors of others; but our hope is that, as your faith increases, our sphere of action among you may be greatly enlarged, so that we may proclaim the good news in lands beyond you, without boasting of work already done in someone else’s sphere of action. “Let the one who boasts, boast in the Lord.” For it is not those who commend themselves that are approved, but those whom the Lord commends.

우리는 자기를 내세우는 사람들과 같은 부류가 되려고 하거나, 그들과 견주어 보려고 하지 않습니다. 그러나 그들은 자기를 척도로 하여 자기를 재고, 자기를 기준으로 하여 자기를 견주어 보고 있으니, 어리석기 짝이 없습니다. 우리는 마땅한 정도 이상으로 자랑을 하려고 하지 않습니다. 우리가 여러분에게까지 다다른 것도, 하나님께서 우리에게 정하여 주신 한계 안에서 된 일입니다. 그러므로 우리는 여러분에게로 가지 못할 사람이 아닙니다. 우리가 여러분에게까지 가서 그리스도의 복음을 전한 것은, 한계를 벗어나서 행동한 것이 아닙니다. 우리는 주제 넘게 다른 사람들이 수고한 일을 가지고 자랑하려는 것이 아닙니다. 다만 바라는 것은 여러분의 믿음이 자람에 따라 우리의 활동 범위가 여러분 가운데서 더 넓게 확장되는 것입니다. 우리는 여러분의 지역을 넘어서 복음을 전하려는 것이요, 남들이 자기네 지역에서 이미 이루어 놓은 일을 가지고 자랑하려는 것이 아닙니다. "자랑하려는 사람은 주님 안에서 자랑해야 합니다." 참으로 인정을 받는 사람은 스스로 자기를 내세우는 사람이 아니라, 주님께서 내세워 주시는 사람입니다.
