새길과 니고데모(요3:1-17 - 원대연 목사) > 주일설교

바리새파 사람 가운데 니고데모라는 사람이 있었다. 그는 유대 의회원이었다. 이 사람이 밤에 예수께 와서 "랍비님, 우리는, 선생님이 하나님께로부터 오신 분임을 압니다. 하나님께서 같이하지 않으시면, 선생님께서 하시는 그런 표적을 아무도 할 수 없습니다" 하고 말하였다. 예수께서 대답하셨다. "내가 진정으로 진정으로 너에게 말한다. 누구든지 다시 나지 않으면, 하나님 나라를 볼 수 없다." 니고데모가 예수께 말하였다. "사람이 늙은 뒤에, 어떻게 다시 태어날 수 있겠습니까? 어머니 뱃속에 다시 들어갔다가 태어날 수야 없지 않습니까?" 예수께서 대답하셨다. "내가 진정으로 진정으로 너에게 말한다. 누구든지 물과 성령으로 나지 않으면, 하나님 나라에 들어갈 수 없다. 육으로 난 것은 육이요, 영으로 난 것은 영이다. 너희가 다시 태어나야 한다고 내가 말한 것을, 너희는 이상히 여기지 말아라. 바람은 불고 싶은 대로 분다. 너는 그 소리는 듣지만, 어디에서 와서 어디로 가는지는 모른다. 성령으로 태어난 사람은 다 이와 같다." 니고데모가 예수께 묻기를 "어떻게, 이런 일이 있을 수 있습니까?" 하니, 예수께서 대답하셨다. "네가 이스라엘의 선생이면서, 이런 것도 알지 못하느냐? 내가 진정으로 진정으로 너에게 말한다. 우리는, 우리가 아는 것을 말하고, 우리가 본 것을 증언하는데, 너희는 우리의 증언을 받아들이지 않는다. 내가 땅의 일을 말하여도 너희가 믿지 아니하거든, 하물며 하늘의 일을 말하면 어떻게 믿겠느냐? 하늘에서 내려온 이, 곧 인자 밖에는 하늘로 올라간 이가 없다. 모세가 광야에서 뱀을 든 것과 같이, 인자도 들려야 한다. 그것은 그를 믿는 사람마다 영원한 생명을 얻게 하려고 하는 것이다. 하나님이 세상을 이처럼 사랑하셔서 독생자를 주셨으니, 누구든지 그를 믿으면 멸망하지 않고 영생을 얻을 것이다. 하나님이 아들을 세상에 보내신 것은, 세상을 심판하시려는 것이 아니라, 아들로 세상을 구원하시려는 것이다.

Now there was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicode'mus, a ruler of the Jews. This man came to Jesus by night and said to him, "Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher come from God; for no one can do these signs that you do, unless God is with him." Jesus answered him, "Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born anew, he cannot see the kingdom of God." Nicode'mus said to him, "How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother's womb and be born?" Jesus answered, "Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Do not marvel that I said to you, `You must be born anew.' The wind blows where it wills, and you hear the sound of it, but you do not know whence it comes or whither it goes; so it is with every one who is born of the Spirit." Nicode'mus said to him, "How can this be?" Jesus answered him, "Are you a teacher of Israel, and yet you do not understand this? Truly, truly, I say to you, we speak of what we know, and bear witness to what we have seen; but you do not receive our testimony. If I have told you earthly things and you do not believe, how can you believe if I tell you heavenly things? No one has ascended into heaven but he who descended from heaven, the Son of man. And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of man be lifted up, that whoever believes in him may have eternal life." For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God sent the Son into the world, not to condemn the world, but that the world might be saved through him.
