그리스도인(행11:19-30)

스데반에게 가해진 박해 때문에 흩어진 사람들이 페니키아와 키프로스와 안디옥까지 가서, 유대 사람들에게만 말씀을 전하였다. 그런데 그들 가운데는 키프로스 사람과 구레네 사람 몇이 있었는데, 그들은 안디옥에 이르러서, 그리스 사람들에게도 말을 하여 주 예수를 전하였다. 주님의 손이 그들과 함께 하시니, 수많은 사람이 믿고 주님께로 돌아왔다. 예루살렘 교회가 이 소식을 듣고서, 바나바를 안디옥으로 보냈다. 바나바가 가서, 하나님의 은혜가 내린 것을 보고 기뻐하였고, 모든 사람에게 굳센 마음으로 주님을 의지하라고 권하였다. 바나바는 착한 사람이요, 성령과 믿음이 충만한 사람이었다. 그래서 많은 사람이 주님께로 나아왔다. 바나바는 사울을 찾으려고 다소로 가서, 그를 만나 안디옥으로 데려왔다. 두 사람은 일 년 동안 줄곧 거기에 머물면서, 교회에서 모임을 가지고, 많은 사람을 가르쳤다. 제자들은 안디옥에서 처음으로 '그리스도인'이라고 불리었다. 그 무렵에 예언자 몇이 예루살렘에서 안디옥에 내려왔다. 그 가운데 아가보라는 사람이 성령의 감동을 받아서, 일어나, 온 세계에 큰 기근이 들 것이라고 예언하였다. 바로 그 기근이 글라우디오 황제 때에 들었다. 그래서 제자들은 각각 자기 형편에 따라 몫을 정하여, 유대에 사는 신도들에게 구제금을 보내기로 결정하였다. 그들은 그대로 실행해서, 바나바와 사울 편에 그것을 장로들에게 보냈다.

Now those who were scattered because of the persecution that arose over Stephen traveled as far as Phoeni'cia and Cyprus and Antioch, speaking the word to none except Jews. But there were some of them, men of Cyprus and Cyre'ne, who on coming to Antioch spoke to the Greeks also, preaching the Lord Jesus. And the hand of the Lord was with them, and a great number that believed turned to the Lord. News of this came to the ears of the church in Jerusalem, and they sent Barnabas to Antioch. When he came and saw the grace of God, he was glad; and he exhorted them all to remain faithful to the Lord with steadfast purpose; for he was a good man, full of the Holy Spirit and of faith. And a large company was added and when he had found him, he brought him to Antioch. For a whole year they met with the church, and taught a large company of people; and in Antioch the disciples were for the first time called Christians. Now in these days prophets came down from Jerusalem to Antioch. And one of them named Ag'abus stood up and foretold by the Spirit that there would be a great famine over all the world; and this took place in the days of Claudius. And the disciples determined, every one according to his ability, to send relief to the brethren who lived in Judea; and they did so, sending it to the elders by the hand of Barnabas and Saul.
