요1:29-34

다음 날 요한은 예수께서 자기에게 오시는 것을 보고 말하였다. "보시오, 세상 죄를 지고 가는 하나님의 어린 양입니다. 내가 전에 말하기를 '내 뒤에 한 분이 오실 터인데, 그분은 나보다 먼저 계시기에, 나보다 앞서신 분입니다' 한 적이 있습니다. 그것은 이분을 두고 한 말입니다. 나도 이분을 알지 못하였습니다. 내가 와서 물로 세례를 주는 것은, 이분을 이스라엘에게 알리려고 하는 것입니다." 요한이 또 증언하여 말하였다. "나는 성령이 비둘기같이 하늘에서 내려와서 이분 위에 머무는 것을 보았습니다. 나도 이분을 몰랐습니다. 그러나 나를 보내어 물로 세례를 주게 하신 분이 나에게 말씀하시기를, '성령이 어떤 사람 위에 내려와서 머무는 것을 보거든, 그가 바로 성령으로 세례를 주시는 분임을 알아라' 하셨습니다. 그런데 나는 그것을 보았습니다. 그래서 나는, 이분이 하나님의 아들이라고 증언하였습니다."

The next day he saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, "Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world! This is he of whom I said, `After me comes a man who ranks before me, for he was before me.' I myself did not know him; but for this I came baptizing with water, that he might be revealed to <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Israel." And John bore witness, "I saw the Spirit descend as a dove from heaven, and it remained on him. I myself did not know him; but he who sent me to baptize with water said to me, `He on whom you see the Spirit descend and remain, this is he who baptizes with the Holy Spirit.'
